Brief Bio for Professor Janet Eyre
She is Professor of Paediatric Neuroscience at Newcastle University in the UK. She is a previous New Zealand Rhodes Scholar and Wellcome Senior Fellow in Clinical Science. She pioneered use of transcranial magnetic and other neurophysiological techniques for studying corticospinal system development and plasticity across the ages from preterm infants to old age. The studies include the development of the sensorimotor cortex, corticospinal system and spinal cord and the implications of lesions at different stages of development through the life span. Her research now centres on use of activitydependent shaping of motor system development after stroke at birth, in childhood and in old age.
