Isabel Fernández-Conejero, MD is currently the Director of Intra-operative Neurophysiology in the Department of Neurology at University Hospital of Bellvitge in Barcelona (Spain).
She received her Bachelor of General Medicine and Surgery from Autonomus University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2000 and of Clinical Neurophysiology at University Hospital of Bellvitge in 2004. She obtained the annual fellowship of Neurosurgery in 2005 at the same hospital and started working in intra-operative neuromonitoring. One year later she moved to New York and completed the fellowship program of Vedran Deletis MD, Ph.D in Intraoperative Neurophysiology at Roosevelt Hospital (Columbia University), June 2006-November 2008.
In 2009, she created the Unit of Intraoperative Neurophysiology at University Hospital of Bellvitge and developed a training program for national and international residents and medical doctors in Neurology and Neurophysiology.
She has published on new methodologies to monitor the corticobulbar tract for different cranial nerves and is currently interested in the study of neurophysiologic markers of motor speech related cortical areas in collaboration with Prof. Deletis (Split, Croatia) and Dr. Sedat Ulkatan (New York, USA).
Dr. Fernández-Conejero was the President of the III Congress of the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN) that was hold in Barcelona in September 2011 and is now a member of the Executive Board of the ISIN.
